The Hushan Great Wall is a segement of the Great Wall of China, located just east of Dandong. Situated on the Yalu River, directly facing North Korea The wall formed a historic border between the two countries. The structure takes its name from the mountain it is situated upon, known as "Hushan" (虎山) or "tiger mountain".

The wall was excavated in 1989 and subsequently reconstructed, opening to the public as a tourist attraction. Visitors are able to witness North Korean villages and outposts from the wall. The area has thus become a popular destination for about to visit the DPRK.

One Metre Hop[]

What has become known as the "one metre hop" is an area beside the wall where China and North Korea are separated only by a small stream, the closest one can get to North Korea from China without actually entering the country. A Chinese soldier stands guard at the point to watch out for North Korean defectors, whilst North Korean soldiers situated in an outpost lurk on the other side.
