A bottle of Ponghak

barman preparing a Ponghak at the Yanggakdo international hotel

Ponghak is a brand of beer produced in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea or otherwise known as North Korea. Sold in many restaurants and in the Yanggakdo international hotel the beer is a popular choice for tourists, notable for its strong taste and its affordable price.

Like most of the alcohol brands produced within the DPRK, Ponghak is produced from brewing equipment which originally belonged to Ushers of Trowbridge, based in England, purchased by the regime in 2002.[1]

Tourists may likewise purchase bottles to take home as gifts or keepsakes.
