Science Street or officially known as Mirae Scientists Street is a newly developed area in Pyongyang, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Opened in late 2015, the street hosts a number of new apartment buildings purported to be designed for "scientists", "teachers" and "researchers" in the city.[1]. The complex is also purported to hold schools, kindergardens and stores [2]
A notable feature of science street is the Ssuk Islet centre, an Atom shaped science building which according to KCNA, hosts laboratories and state of the art technology[3]. As a whole, science street is representative of the North Korean regime's "emphasis" on science, technology and research, a vital source of legitimacy and prestige, as well as a contribution to its nuclear weapons program.[4]
